I came across something yesterday which I thought some people might want to know about.
Hang on – this comes for free! Don’t get scared off yet.
Usually when I hear the name “Mike Filsaime” I run and duck for cover. I’m serious! I know he knows viral marketing well. It’s just a thing I have.
But it was late, I was supposed to be in bed, and I was also taking a break from what I was supposed to be doing (like make my 33rd Squidoo Lens).
Mike has a new viral marketing membership program, with free and paid versions. It’s called Butterfly Reports.
This membership enables you to create free viral reports very easily (with rebrandable affiliate links) and syndicate them to others who can promote them and send them to their email lists of zillions of people.
You also get access to a wide variety for free reports and eBooks which have been written by others. Some of the affiliate links can be rebranded with your affiliate ID.
There are different versions and scenarios and features but the very short video explains it pretty succinctly and better than I could.
I watched a short video and decided to sign up for the free version (which was much more fun than doing what I was supposed to be doing).
Then of course there was one-time-offer an upsell page, asking for a couple hundred dollars so I clicked on the “no thank you, I know I’m destroying my life but I’ll have to pass up anyway” button, and continued on to my next upsell.
Okay – this upsell offerred me a free 30-day trial with a Gold membership, for $1.00. (After that it’s $29 per month.) But it also offerred these free bonuses:

Several of the above free bonuses are things I have heard of before and in a good way. The The Butterfly Marketing Manuscript has been highly recommended for the field of Viral Marketing. So has the Viral Friend Generator. I think I’ve heard of the Power Link Generator before, and it looks very useful.
I’ve also heard of eWriter Pro as being a very good eBook creation software.
The others – I don’t know. But the two CB tools look pretty interesting. Although I don’t think I would want to use an unblockable popup maker.
I logged into my account and started looking for what free rebrandable eBooks were available. There is a pretty impressive collection and I started to download some.
They also tell you how many links there are in the eBooks, and how many are rebrandable. So you can see this before you download.

Apparently, the staff write the reports for you as well? If I heard that correctly. I’m still figuring this out (when I’m not making Squidoo Lenses).
In any case, I thought it looked interesting, and if any of you out there are interested in Viral Marketing, getting your name out there, finding useful and rebrandable free eBooks to distribute, or just getting a bunch of free software, you might like to know about this.

I know what you mean about Mike. Nothing against him personally, but boy does he know how to upsell? I think he should trademark that word, actually.
Did you sign up for the free stuff at StomperNet, of which Mike was a donor of material? There’s so much to go through and learn and excited about what I can do with the lessons that are awaiting to be absorbed and acted on.

Yes I did order the Stompernet thing. I haven’t figured out when I am going to study it but I decided its that time for me. I haven’t received it yet – but I’m in Belgium. Gives me some time to prepare!
Plus I seem to be pulling in software all over the place lately. I haven’t even had time to install most of it, or even look at the documentations. I am just swimming in this stuff! I won a contest at John Cow so I got Store Stacker and Content solution. I traded in another program I didn’t want, and I got three new server-side softwares, and now this. They all seem like useful tools! So much to do!
Oh well, back to my boring old article submissions and Squidoo lenses for now … one does have to work sometimes!

I noticed that someone submitted a report I wrote to the Business to Business section (was submitted in May). It’s on the 2nd page. I remember joining this a while back, it’s a cool concept, much like Tim’s viral spiral thing, or Davin and Holly’s honest brands. There are some good ebooks to be had, and can give you some great content to build your list with.

Yeah, really! I can’t agree with you more. I think the only reason I took this one up was because I knew from earlier that a lot of these tools were actually relatively valuable and usually do cost money. And there were some I could use right now. Plus it was a simple #1 trial membership, and I could cancel the membership via Paypal so it wasn’t exactly high-risk or high-hassle.
I try not to go all out on new things while I am completing the old, while not missing new opportunities. Man, it can be interesting trying to keep that balance!

I don’t have any problem with Mike Filsaime. I won’t admit that in certain circles because it’s sure to cause a firestorm of emotional outburst.
I signed up for the $1 Butterfly system last year. Haven’t watch the DVD’s read (not a video person), but I have read all the material, and it’s solid. His monthly magazine is superb. Exceptionally well-produced, rock-solid content. Most of the people screeching the free line simply aren’t capable of producing material this technically accurate, nor capable of presenting it as effectively.
He’s pretty blunt about his goals on his upsells: he’s looking for a very few people that resonate with him. Very simple. I don’t have a problem with it.
Then again, I’m a big boy who can take care of himself.

@ Dave – I’ve read some of his material as well and I agree with you. I read whatever applied to my business model and it has definitely proven solid and workable. The same goes for people I know who have read it.
I personally have a problem with what Sylvie Fortin refers to as upsell-hell. Maybe it’s a workable system, but for me (from the consumer viewpoint) I usually can’t handle it. I don’t have enough time to dedicate to decisions on so many offers at once.
