I have had a hard drive full of what I call “virtual post-it notes.” Notepad (.txt) files stored away in different folders with notes about everything. Little notes, you know? Like post-its on the fridge, but worse.
I would need a hundred fridges to hold all these virtual post-it notes.
Examples?
- Product Keys, Serial Numbers, and Activation Keys
- Affiliate Links
- Coupon Codes
- At least 30 To-Do Lists on different projects
- WordPress plugins I use
- Code snippets
- Random pieces of incomplete blog posts and articles I want to write
- Phone numbers
- Addresses
- Logins and passwords (yep)
- Wish lists & shopping lists
- Photoshop techniques (how to fix an ugly sky, how to improve skin tone, etc, etc.)
- WordPress themes to try for this or that site
- Ping lists
- Bank account numbers and pin numbers
- Ideas for domain names
- Etc, etc, etc.
These little notepad files have been taking over my life like gremlins take over giant buildings. I have stored them in folders, used shortcuts to try to organize and cross-reference them, and occasionally spent a couple hours trying to keep them updated … but enough is enough. I personally think that system is fine, unless you have a better one, which I didn’t.
When I think about every time I had to search and search for a lost bit of data – a password, a pin number, a product key …
Or even worse, when I never could find them in the end.
When I think about the time I lost through as a result of the confusion brought on by being in the middle of too many projects at once and not remembering what needed to be done next on which, or what my priorities were.
Or what about the time spent just reorganizing and updating my “virtual post-its?” Or redoing work which was already done, because I couldn’t find my notes?
And oh … if we had a dollar for every time we lost and had to recover our password … need I say more?
I have found two fantastic, simple, and light software programs. I did not need to “learn how to use them” for more than 2 or 3 minutes max. They are very simple.
One of these programs is for information which you would want to have password protected – like bank account numbers, logins, passwords, and personal information.
The other program covers the rest, and so much more. When you start to use it you start to slowly grasp its limitless possibilities. It is also so versatile, that it replaces the need for many other programs – in my case, at least.
With a few clicks and very little searching I can access any of the information above. It doesn’t get lost, and I don’t have to search through one folder after the next to try to find where I put it. I can updated it quickly, whenever I need to.
I will write about this more in the near future. So stay in touch. And, if you haven’t subscribed already, please subscribe to be informed of future updates.
Thanks a lot and see you next time!

lol, great cliffhanger in the end
But it is a VERY recognisable thing… All these notes everywhere, my iPhone is also filled with them

Really … they remind me of tinsel at Christmas!
Hi Anna
gotta admit this post made me chuckle because it is way too familiar with me … in other words, I am doing the same. And every time I tell myself the same, to clean up my desktop, to file stuff the right way or whatever, but today I just ended up going through a lot of “post its” and spent a few hours actually throwing stuff out and cleaning my desktop ….
boy… what a relief!!

@ Mirjam – Yeah, really!
That does sound familiar. Only recently have I started to realize that life doesn’t have to be this way. I’m pretty excited about implementing new solutions to clean all this mess up. They are SIMPLE but powerful. I still haven’t posted about my favorite yet. But its WAY too simple.
